Hello all.
I’m Michael Schor, another member of the Leadership Academy team for 2010. I say team because that’s what the Academy is about; learning to network, find and focus your potential and work together as a team with other members of the Library family. We’ll probably all learn some new tricks along the way.
I’ve actually been meaning to apply to the Academy for a couple of years and just never found the time. I’m currently a 30hr Youth Librarian at Appaloosa. Currently I am creator of the “Journey to” space programs, perform weekly storytimes, run Teen programs, lead Appaloosa’s Teen Advisory Board, Chair the TACkies committee try to keep things running smoothly as an LTA and in a couple of months will begin preparing for SRP. Whew! That’s a lot of knives to be juggling, but, in the end, I know it will be worth it. Being 30 hrs, as long as you don’t have a second job (at least not yet), leaves you open to explore and experience a little more in your free/off work time. So I thought to myself, “Self, just take a shot and go for it.” Well, I did and here I am.
We all thought that blogging about our experience would be a good idea. It allows us to discuss, in an online medium, what we learn as well as let others know what the Leadership Academy experience is like. Maybe you’ve been on the fence about applying. Maybe you’re just curious. Hopefully this blog will serve to enlighten you or assist you in making your decision about whether or not to join.
Beyond the insights into the Academy experience we also hope to have discussions through the blog post comments with not just ourselves but anyone who would like talk about what we have covered in our “classes”.
We’ll be posting at least once per month shortly after our “Big Picture” days.
This is a commitment of both on and off work time for us and without the support of our supervisors and our supervisor’s supervisors we would not be able to take part in this great opportunity. Thank you for your interest and support.
Michael
